Vote Like Our Civilization Depends On It

John Hinderaker:

Can the Left succeed in getting its way by intimidating jurors? Yes, it can. In 2021, police officer Derek Chauvin was tried for the “murder” of George Floyd, who had, apparently by sheer coincidence, three times the lethal limit of fentanyl in his system, which is why he repeatedly complained that he couldn’t breathe—his lungs were filling up with fluid on account of the fentanyl overdose—a half hour before anyone knelt on him.

Chauvin should have had, at a minimum, a fighting chance at trial. But much of the city of Minneapolis had already been burned down by rioters, and leading figures in the Democratic Party were inciting mobs by demanding that Chauvin be convicted, or else. Pretty much every business in downtown Minneapolis shut down and put up riot barriers, for fear that the Chauvin jury might not reach the “right” verdict. The Hennepin County courthouse was shut down—eerily, it was completely dark, except for the one room where the Chauvin trial took place. The courthouse was surrounded by concrete barriers and barbed wire, in anticipation of attacks by liberals, especially if the jury didn’t do the “right” thing. Jurors assembled in an undisclosed location and were bused to the otherwise-uninhabited courthouse every morning, lest they be exposed to violence from the Left.

So, yeah: liberals are serious about trying to make it impossible for anyone who shows up for jury duty to fail to do their bidding.
